What is your game name? Just like an Instagram handle or any online persona, game names are part of the whole vibe.

My name isn’t really Missy. It was a family nickname for me and I played mahjong… so I created Missy Mahjong. I answer to both my real name and Missy, but most people only call me Missy these days if they also play mahjong.

The new 2025 NMJL card release is the start of the “mahjong year.” So, to welcome the new year, I am adding game names for all my students and players. I am going to have to get creative and really start brainstorming!

Who will you be? I have a Ms. AlaBAMa, Jackie Joker and the Queen of Quints sitting at my table. It’s time to come up with your game name for mahjong. I can’t do it alone, Shufflin’ Sherri.

Part of the fun of mahjong social clubs is the friendliness and casual nature of the games. I started the mahjong social clubs because I want to make this game a full experience. Adding in fun twists like game names and table rules and modern tiles make mahjong more exciting than our grandmother's game.

I could call 90-year-old Ruth from the library my “Rules Ruth” or… I suppose... I could call her the “crak dealer.” She has been a fierce competitor and no-nonsense mahjong teacher for over 40 years. I mean, either name works on game day! Or my Chicago instructor may have to start the year known as the “Tournament Titan.” She has an impressive tournament record so I just call it as I see it.
